I’ve been an SEO professional for nearly a decade, and have first-hand experience on launching and building a six-figure SEO freelance business in less than six months.

Truthfully, this isn’t the first time that I tried to launch an SEO consulting agency. Back in 2013, one of my colleagues and I started a small SEO agency, trying to get clients. We had high hopes to quit our 9 to 5 as soon as possible and had a rude awakening on how challenging it was to consistently find and close profitable SEO contracts.

Needless to say, our "SEO agency" was not a success. We sporadically took on work when it came across our plates and never invested the time or effort to make it a success. In 2016, we closed the "agency" and I took a different approach to freelancing on my own.

There are six core course modules plus an introductory and wrap-up module. Every module has between 3-4 lessons each with a total of 30 individual lessons throughout all modules.

This can be a tough situation and something I’d recommend you work out with your employer or ask an attorney.

You’ll want to check your employee handbook on “moonlighting” to see if it’s OK within your current employment. If it’s not, you may want to talk to HR about creating an addendum to your employment contract.

Once you have a business started, you can claim it as an “employee invention” if you join a new employer or potentially add an addendum to your existing employer but you’ll need to verify first. This is important to protect your business assets and stay legal with your employment.

Yes! Most people assume that if you don’t have years of SEO experience, you won’t be able to get clients. However, I don’t think this is the case at all…

If you don’t have much SEO experience, you may not be able to command as high of fees as others with a lot of SEO experience but your fees will increase over time and this is totally normal.  

There are steps you can take before freelancing to supplement your experience and credibility, such as thought-leadership.

Also, much of what you bring to the table with working examples, industry knowledge and professionalism can help way more than just years of experience!
